So Lady L. and I watched "The US vs. John Lennon" last night. All I can say is that I am inspired to no end! I never knew much about John Lennon and Yoko Ono before watching this other than he was a Beatle and everyone hated Yoko. This was a great glimpse into this man's life that I never knew and ya know what? He was an awesome character. He was a radical with strong beliefs. He fought and stood for freedom in America more than most Americans did. His songs were full of promise and hope and they really sang to the masses. He figured that if he could have millions listening and singing along to "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", why not have them listen and sing along to "Give Peace A Chance". What a fucking amazing thing. It was totally selfless and what a compassionate way of living.
It definitely made me understand someone like Bono these days. Someone who is willing to do more w/ their celebrity status than just be rich and famous. Willing to put themselves out there to bring public attention to issues that the general public might never see because of this. It's a pretty amazing thing.
Am I gonna like U2 after this? Probably not. Will I write protest songs and sing on the steps of the Capitol? Nope. But I will remember that while actions speak louder than words, words speak louder than no actions. Life is too short to not sing and write about things that truly mean something to you. That's a lesson learned by Mr. John Lennon!
