Ahhhh, another lazy Sunday afternoon. Hope you all are doing well. This was a pretty rough week for me for a few reasons but all in all, I'm here and I'm well. Thanks for checking in w/ lil ol' me.
So with the CD Release Show a success and gone, I have nothing planned on the live circuit. I will be performing w/ my band Shades of Winter on Thursday, August 16th at Broad Street Cafe in Durham. We are sharing the bill with an act called The Virgo 9 so please be sure to come on out. The show starts at 8:00pm and as far as I know, there is no cover.
I am still writing material and am planning on recording yet ANOTHER CD. I'm not quite sure of the direction yet but it'll be a fun one I know. I just purchased an Alesis Drum Machine with hopes of doing some experimental recording as well. I've got plenty of ideas but I guess I need to learn how to use this thing first eh?
My good friend Jay Cartwright of Eyes To Space asked me if I would be interested in contributing bass and backing vocals in a Roy Orbison Tribute band. Shit, how could I say NO to THAT? We are calling ourselves "Roy Orbitron and The Night Shufflers". We had our 2nd rehearsal last week and it was brilliant. I'm really looking forward to seeing where this thing goes. This is one group of amazing and talented people that I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to work with.
In other random news, I've started writing in my Great Southern Brainfart blog again so head on over there and read up kiddies!!!!
See ya'll soon!

Thank you for a REAL good time!
What a great weekend! The CD Release party was a HUGE success at Pheasant Creek Coffeehouse in Apex and the place was packed! I'd love to thank my friends Protean Mean for opening the show with a great set of music. A fun night was had by all and I can honestly say that this was my fave show to date! Thanks for making such a magical night!
The SetLists and Blog have been updated w/ new stuff so head on over there and give them a look. As for upcoming gigs... THERE ARE NONE! That's not to say that there won't be a few more gigs before years end but I do have some other surprises up my sleeve. Be sure to stay tuned here for more!
For those that are wanting to get a copy of the new CD, you can do so from my Merchandise page on the site. They are $10.00 plus postage and if you want, I'll even sign it and depreciate it for ya! The local UNC College paper The Daily Tarheel wrote a great and HONEST review of the new CD. Head on over to http://media.www.dailytarheel.com/media/storage/paper885/news/2007/07/12/Arts/Durham.Singer.Comfortably.Folk-2922759.shtml and read all about it!
Thanks again for all the love and support and stay tuned for more folked up goodness!

Harvest Time
Every so often and album just speaks to me in volumes and inspires me to no end. I have fallen in love with Neil Young's "Harvest" over the past few months. I'll be honest, I have NEVER been a Neil Young fan other than his work w/ Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. I was playing a show a few months back and someone in the audience told me afterwards that some of my material reminded her of Neil Young's "Harvest" album and that it was her favorite record. After hearing that, how could I not check this album out?
All I can say is that this album just blows my fucking mind. The songs are so great and the lyrics just fill my soul and mind with inspiration. It's not brain surgery but yet it's so substantial. The topics of the songs, the way he addresses the south in "Alabama", the heartbreaking "Heart of Gold", and "The Needle & The Damage Done", the inspiring "Old Man"... GODDAMN! I'm inspired is all I can say.
THIS is what I need to do! This album has just blown my mind and filled my sails to steer me in another direction. Not one that is much different than where I'm at now but a direction that I have steered away from for sometime. That area of just pure unabandonment.
Ahhhh... to be inspired!

A Joyful Noise
What other way is there to describe music? Music for a lil bit was starting to become a stressful thing for me and something that I wasn't really enjoying much on a few levels. So in order to try and get that "fun" feeling back, I hooked up w/ these cat in Pittsboro, NC who get together on Sunday afternoons in a garage, drink beer, bullshit, and play AC/DC covers. Talk about feeling 17 again. It's been so much fun working w/ these guys and it's stress free fun. Just 4 guys knocking back some cold ones and playing the music we all grew up on. It's been nice to dust off the bass guitar and rig and really crank it up to 11! Besides, it is one louder. Doing this has really made me love music again and remember just why I got into this in the first place. It's also made me re-evaluate some of the things I've been doing lately as well. Maybe I need to take a lower road w/ somethings and just enjoy them for what they are and not try and make them something else. And if I do want more, than it's up to me to make that happen in some other form.
I'm also really excited about another musical project in the works w/ a musician and friend I admire VERY much so. This is gonna be something REALLY fun and REALLY unique and I can't begin to say how psyched I am. To be considered a musician of the same caliber as these guys is a compliment and a half and I'm honored. I'm not gonna say any more about it but I will say this, you will never see or hear ANYTHING like this! It's gonna rock your sock hop baby!
So the countdown has started! The CD release show is on the 14th and I'm so psyched! This is what I've been working towards for the past year and it's all coming to this! I hope it'll be a great audience. This is a REALLY important show to me and it's nice to know that I will be surrounded by supportive loved ones and friends on this night. This is going to be a special show and I can't begin to say how much I hope you all can make it out! I would be honored to entertain you. OH yeah, and buy a CD while you're at it won't ya? haha!
Love you all!

Fireflies and Friends
Well, after a lot of blood (literally), sweat (literally) and tears (also literally), the new album is here. I've held it, I've looked at it, and I've heard it. This is without a doubt the most rewarding release of my career yet. I really worked on this one and to know that people are going to buy this album, take it home, and listen to it just blows my fucking mind. You have no idea. The CD is available as we speak from my website but the OFFICIAL release will be at my CD release part on Saturday, July 14th at Pheasant Creek Coffeehouse. I'm so excited about this show and this CD and can't wait to hear what you all think about it! You can head over to http://www.donontheweb.com and pick up a copy!
So my good friend Bert Wray has FINALLY given in and become part of the MY SPACE universe and I'm so glad he has. Head over to http://www.myspace.com/bertwray and make a new friend with one of the greatest friends and greatest songwriters I have ever known in my life! You won't be sorry!
