Yup! I've hit a wall. I knew it was going to happen eventually given that I've been writing so much over the past year and a half. At one point, it felt like I was writing a song every few months. Well, I feel like I've hit a wall but it's funny, I'm still finding myself productive.
See, in the past, when I was a that wall, I would just not write unless I could have a full and complete song. So what I've decided to do now is just open my notebook and if I get a title, just write it down and leave it be. If I have a concept of the song, I will just start writing out the concept of the song and if anything starts to flow, it will. If not, at least I will still have captured the inspiration so that it just doesn't get lost in the process of looking for the full song.
This being said, I have written 4 new pieces of music and have been working out concepts for each of them. THe fun part about this actually is that I am getting to see just what I am thinking at that particular time. Again, nothing may even come out of it but at least I am still writing and getting those ideas out of my head and on paper.
Some may say that this takes away from the spontaneity of writing. Actually, opinion is that whatever you are writing at that time from raw thought and inspiration is still spontaneous so by doing this, you are not running the risk of loose the idea of what could be a great song.
And if you are still reading this... you need a hobby! :)
